What exactly is a Llewellin Setter?
It is a very specific pure
strain of English Setter with bloodlines tracing back to the mid 1800 English
sportsman R.L. Purcell Llewellin. Who breed his Setter’s from the Duke-Rhoebe
line, to the top English Setter producer of the mid 1800s, Edward Laverick.
Laverick’s dogs were famous for there field quality and beauty. This produced
the finest hunting and field trail Setters of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Llewellin’s became so dominant to any other English Setter that they got there own registry in 1902. Most of the early winners of the American Field championships were Llewellins. The Field Dog Stud Book of the American Field requires for a dog to be a Llewellin, it has to be DNA 100% Duke/Rhoebe—Laverick, no other blood is allowed.
These dogs have been breed since that time to be hunting dogs, not show dogs. They have such a natural instinct to hunt, point, back, and retrieve to hand; that training is a breeze. Their greatest attribute is they have the sweetest and most companionability disposition. You can take them from the house to the field without a problem.
Our Llewellin Setters
Our focus is on producing the finest foot bird hunting
Llewellins. Shenandoah Mountain Outfitters Llewellin’s are
primary working dogs on our public game preserve and personal
hunting dogs. You will not see a long list of field trail wins
attached to each dog. With a game preserve and hunting, this
leaves little time for trailing. We have something better
,
full time hunting dogs. The best way to find out the quality of
your dog is to hunt it.
We are constantly scouring the country to find the highest
quality dogs possibly to bring into our hunting program. Some
dogs make it, some dogs do not. This is done so our customers
can hunt behind the finest Llewellin Setters and purchase top
notch puppies. Shenandoah Mountain Outfitters has done all the
work, so you do not have to.
Our dogs have been DNA tested, FDSB registered, and PennHIP.

Ready for a top quality foot hunting Llewellin Setter?
Periodically through out the year we have a litter or two. We do not breed for puppies to sell, but to produce our next generation of premium hunting dogs. This allows individuals looking for a quality dog to take advantage of our misfortune in not being able to keep the entire litter.
We do not release any puppies for sale
until they are between 9 and 10 weeks old. This helps produces
well adjusted dogs later in socialization and training. Our
program also includes bird imprinting and gun desensitization
starting after 6 weeks old, and of course
a lot of human interaction. Producing a quality finished gun dog
starts from day one.
All puppies come up to date on all shots and worming for their age. Shots are given for Bordetella, Distemper, Hepatitis/Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Gardia, and Parvo. They also are treated for Coccidiosis.
Our puppies have the genetics of over a hundred years of selective hunting breeding and the best start for continuing that tradition.
